I know I haven't been on here in a while... well a long while. No excuse, totally my fault. Between my meds fucking up my memory and well over 200 + bookmarks on my browser it seems I basically forgot about this gem.


Anyway, the real reason for this thread is that when coming back to here I immediately went to HackerHeaven only to find out it was not really there anymore. (I'm probably extremely late on this, forgive me)

I was like SHIT! With Asta basically "gone", also with the best/smartest/most experienced/willing to teach/active members not there anymore Hacker Heaven was the last hope to be able to interact with those people. That fact alone that all you guys were on one site whether Asta or HackerHeaven made that opportunity and value PRICELESS.


I was talking to duder the other day (sorry to throw you in this rant) on IRC and was telling him how much I missed/needed HackerHeaven. Also joked a little about some stuff I saw on here like the band stuff lol.

Anyway just wanted to get that out there/off my chest. Meant no disrespect to anyone, just the opposite. The whole feeling behind this is respect and admiration for the skills/knowledge you guys have.

Personally I think every automobile expert should have a cooking site.. Lol just as long as the cooks don't start hair dressing sites!! That would be dangerous.
I thought of posting a similar post when astra got hacked some time ago..
However I concluded that Daremo probably would have already run with it if he had the time energy and the support network in place to run such a show. After being a mod and probably more on ASTA and probably others... the experience is there but the vital novelty factor may not be any more.
I would love to be shown to be wrong but that was my take on it.
A problem I see is that to get a site to be really useful in its field it has to have a certain critical mass to cover all areas in that field. Without that critical mass it will feel like a horse with only one leg. In my view that is why this site works. Its field simply is casual social Free Speech and its held together by different people all of whom appreciate this and the views/insights of the others.
On an IT site the field is so big now that the critical mass size may be hard to manage. The field could be kept small like "PIC micro processor programming", or "write your own OS" however if that's not you interest... A choking site would look quit appetizing in contrast.
But prove me wrong and I'll gladly put my 10 cent in.

I don't know I'm not trying to be rude but if I seem to then it might be that I'm just a little upset with some of the things you said. Man I've been fucking around with computers for a long time now, numbers, hacking, security, info gathering, what ever your game is I'm in (-: still a noob so be gentle) but hell my life can't be spent living just for that, that would be boring, shit !!

Astalavista thing, I am a Member of Astalavista and a Contributing Member that's how I found this forum reading post's by Daremo, Kitz, Spoofed, Frog,,, didn't know what expect Hacking, Info Sec. What a change !! And a needed one as far as I'm concerned it's nice to have friends from all over the world that you can interact with and enjoy being friends with, without all the bullshit in the world, even when they have an opinion about something that you said, that to me is Priceless !!

Taint, I really don't get people that stand on the sideline and complain, doing nothing to change the fact that they are on the sideline ?

I think that's it I need a shot :-)

So your saying Asta is "gone" in that it's useless? Not surprised really.
I think TreeFrog makes a very good point about the critical mass and all that, he's right, you require that for any "information" site to work.
I was unaware that Hacker Heaven is gone, but it didn't have that critical mass but would take the same amount of work for D to maintain, and so probably didn't justify all the work.
This site is not that type of site, there is no critical mass required, although some extra new members are always welcome!

Everyone needs an escape, I get plenty of IT stuff with work and the odd side project, so having a place to chat about everything else with people that work in the same area is a nice break from the norm.

Hi Taint. I don't think you meant to "dis" this site, only to protest Hacker Heaven being off line. TreeFrog hit the nail on the head when he talks about critical mass tho. Other than the people from this forum, it seemed like any new post was the "Can you help me get my data off my old work/girlfriend's computer..." line of bull. We just weren't getting any new information or serious members so at some point - I can't remember exactly when - Hacker Heaven went dark.

On the other hand this forum is about people; it is fun getting together with friends and just talking about whatever comes to mind. I would love to see more people joining in just to get new points of view and because everyone who becomes a regular here I count as a friend.
