D and I went to a farmers market we haven't been to before. This one had a real difference - it had a real farmer selling at one of the tables (that is "a real farmer" as in ONE). The rest of the tables had yuppies selling things from poorly made jewelry (I have the right to compare since I also create poorly made jewelry) to expensive designer teas (did they have ANY plain black or green tea? No). There was a table selling "organic produce" which, from looking at the quality and size of the produce, meant overpriced, undersized, bug chewed produce - not very appetizing.
But I digress. The one actual farmer wasn't selling produce, she was selling meat - rabbit and chicken meat to be exact. She (yes, women can be farmers too) was defensive at first because she'd recently had to deal with a person from a rabbit rescue organization complaining to the farmers market organizer about including her in the market. Once she understood that I love bunny ON THE GRILL she calmed down and we had a good laugh. She especially liked my story about giving a yuppie fits when I commented that an endangered animal in the zoo would make great slippers.
Inquiring minds want to know...
Do you have farmers markets where you live? Do you go to them? Would you buy meat directly from a farmer at one of these or would you be nervous because it doesn't carry a meat inspector's stamp? Do you like bunny live and kicking, on the grill or both?
