Naturally, the politicians are busily writing speeches, putting on a good show to garner votes. There is a memorial ceremony at the site of the Twin Towers scheduled on Sept 11th, with other events leading up to the big ceremony. However; you may only attend by invitation - said invitations going to politicians and family members of those who died in the attacks.

Those NOT invited include First Responders - you know, those people who risked their lives and health to go in and try to rescue any survivors - and actual survivors. These people have been told to stay away, due to "space constraints." Really? There were THAT many first responders and survivors that New York City can't find room to squeeze them in? Especially considering that the memorial ceremony is taking place at the site of the Twin Towers.

First Responders claim that they are being excluded because the government is embarrassed that the health conditions caused by the dust and chemicals (which, initially, the First Responders were told were harmless) have not been adequately addressed by the government. Interviews with government officials responding to the accusation sounds like typical double speak to me; we're holding the ceremony to help family members "heal" (if you haven't healed in 10 years, this ceremony isn't going to help) and questioning why the First Responders haven't complained about not being invited to the events leading up to the Sept 11 ceremony (because they didn't need an invitation to attend, unlike the Sept 11 ceremony).

I am so utterly disgusted with every politician in this country; this is just one more item covering them further in ignominy. I think they should all hang their heads in shame and resign.

I share your disgust. It's little more than a photo opportunity by the looks of it, it's obvious that the survivors should be there kinda mad that they are not.
So many lives lost and so little learned!

It'll be because it's easier to remember the dead rather than have to honour the living. (Warning - sarcasm ahead) And anyway, why do survivors need a ceremony - they're still alive, isn't that good enough for them?
