What's the point of a forum ?

Sound's like a silly question , but really what is the point of a forum?
What is it's purpose, it's function?
For me , it's a place where i can come , read thread's posted by others , and either agree or disagree with the content.

I don't know about you guy's but i love to disagree , sometime's i do it just for the hell of it, it's fun :-)

The great thing about being with "good" friend's is you can differ with your friend's opinion , but agree to meet back here again!

Or it's just a "club" , a place where there are no dissenting view's, everyone sing's from the same hymm sheet , and we all agree we are all great, pretty damm boring !

It may sound like an odd post , but think about it ???

I thought at least you and me agreed.. I like the idea of old man slippers with the shot of something strong and you .. well not the slippers anyway.
We don't have to have the same favorite colour. We don't even have to spell "color" the same. as long as we understand the insults from each other.

definetly not boring here... between just you and me, we've agreed/disagreed on several things, always resulting in... well.. more agreements/disagreements. so far it hasn't gotten either of us anywhere, good or bad, which i see as ok. there doesn't always have to be some 'movie-like' change of heart by one of the opponents in a discussion. hell, if it's one thing i've learned in my (somewhat) short tenure on this earth, it's that i can't convince anybody of anything. i'm not a salesman, never have been. but, i can have some fun while disagreeing/bickering/flaming (radiacal ed comes to mind.. antimatt3r as well).

some forums do tend to go the way you've described (particularly along the lines of everyone sucking each others cocks) but i don't think this one's like that at all. matter of factly, i don't post much anywhere besides here, asta (occasionally) and at projectmentor.. other than that, i might read posts here and there and respond occasionally, but i don't really care for the 'community' at most places. here, i like.

so, as long as people keep posting here, i'll continue to agree or disagree according to my views on things.

Oh and about the what is a forum thing...I generally agree with Duder on this one, it's a nice place to chill, and I think we have all learned something frrom this ya know...

First I am only a member of 2 forums and I was wondering what is a pint?
For me the forums are a great place to learn of other peoples ideas, a place for me to voice my own and a place to have a bit of fun. It is also a place where I can pick and choose what debates or ideas that I want to post.

A "pint" is actually a "point" , it's what you can give other member's of this board , or indeed i can give you.
For some details of how they work check out the home page , Daremo has all the details as to how they work.

It mean's you have some power here , to give and take point's from users.

Check your user CP and see if you have any , if not you should !

I had a friend with pints but he drank them all.. now he has not got any. He did give one or two to me and that was cool. (pints that is) but I was only there to make up the numbers. Double date thing you see. Man I dont like those things.. Like the guy cant just go out and get on with it..

The other lass was ok to chat with.. Polish. Now I think of it she did not disagree with me on anything. How "interesting". I'm sure she was able to understand.. !! :confused:

Forums like this one are really cool. You can talk about anything that is on your mind and some people with agree with you and other people will call you a jerk. Either way you get to see other sides of an argument. I love the point system too, because you aren't supposed to give points if someone agrees with you or doesn't agree, but you can give points if someone writes a post that is really interesting or makes a great point, or you can take away points if someone is being a real jerk.

Forums about one subject are ok because sometimes you need to learn stuff about that subject and you get to hear from experts, but if you don't have a question you usually don't go spend time on those forums.
