Now this isn't really a home automation question, well it is a bit...anyway!

I've recently taken up the hobby of fish keeping, I have a small 20liter aquarium and a larger 90liter one. I'm wanting to kind of combine my hobbies here and see if I can hook up a few sensors to a Linux mini-ITX so I can monitor my aquarium while I'm away from home.

My question is, has anyone here ever used Linux to control...things? I know I could buy a device that would do what I want but it's stupid money and surely it can't be too hard, right?

I do not have any answers to your question, but I am curious about your aquariums. What kind of fish (fresh or saltwater) or are you setting up a reef system (light on fish, heavy on corals)?

Tropical freshwater, I have an Amazon theme tank and a smaller tank that is soon to be home to Siamese Fighter Fish, it is currently home to a few Mollies to get the biological cycle going ready for the Fighter, I'll move those into the larger Amazon tank as soon as I get the Fighter. I'll stick some pics in the gallery!
