Promotion/Demotion System

Should I build up the promotion/demotion system I had on the old D.og on this one? Was it appreciated? Did anyone care.

It was the focus of my social experiment to be able to see the gestalt mind at work but for it to work we need a critical mass of members. I don't mind building it again, but I'd like to know your thoughts.

Also what about a so-call 'Experience' system? This is where members get points for performing various activities on the site. These points win virtual honors, titles and awards causing a competition of sorts thus increasing site activity. There's even an option for a virtual market place to spend your points buying advanced privileges, access and jokes, such as giving another member of your choice of a custom title of your choice for a given number of days. Imagine what Kitz would make *YOUR* title if given the chance.

I feel the whole pro/demo points system would be fine if we had a big pool of people. I think the Experience system would be more applicable for us, however, some may not try to do these things either... Who can say?

I agree, that Experience system would probably work better for us. It's not about what Kitz would make my title; it's about what I would make Kitz's.

Like the look of the experience system a lot! Very RPG like, wonder if we could get our level concatenated onto our user name e.g. 'Lv2 Rikku' Haha that would be kind of cool...

Treefrog asked how to give reputation points here, so I now point back to this thread. I can implement the promotion/rank structure again fairly easily. It can also include the mods as it doesn't have to actually change your main usergroup just your status/rank.

For example the combined total of reputation (controlled by others) and post count (controlled by you) would give a rank/status title. If that total falls - the title falls; if it rises - the title rises. I can set the falling of the title to actually trigger a main usergroup change, removing privilege and essentially suppressing or even banning a troublesome individual until their status rises again. This might be useful for the gestalt, hive mind to censor a troublesome newcommer without an admin hard ban-hammer.

I can create the titles and graphics (sort of like your arcade crowns) and put this in place, mods and all can compete fairly for rank/title and the social experiment of D.Org can continue -OR- we can continue as is with no reputation and rankings. So what do you think? No one would lose any rank as I could recount all posts to the point of turning this on and you guys could give reputation from then on and see what insane rank-titles I come up with.

Who knows, Someone my become the 'Exalted High Potentate'. What titles would you bestow? What rank structure would you create?
