I'm posting this in an attempt to get some good ideas from all the membership.
The CMS system is currently only using a section called "Front Page". I put some announcements in there that, frankly, should roll into the Visitor's forums or FAQ's. On the left of the Front Page there a couple of widgets; Sections and Categories.
Simply put, what should we put there? Since all mods can add content they could post articles, complete with pic or videos to liven-up the Front Page.
Since each section can have categories we could "Go Deeper" like a section called "News" with categories of; "UK"; Asia" and "US". (That's just an example we don't really have to do that)
Think creatively, what can we do? What should we add?
Does any one, mod or not, want to volunteer to own & mod a section? Add the content, keep it up-to-date and fresh? Any masochists out there? Anybody have a hobby or video game addiction that you want to expose to the world?
And last -- there is a Wiki-clone add-on for this CMS -- is anyone interested? What would we wiki if I put it up?
Anyway that's enough to scare the crap out of all of you for awhile.
Think about it

Ok so I'm embarrassed :o about asking for the Blog thing when its right in front of me.. I'll get my stuff up at the weekend
As for the Front Page content.
-Any objections to a feed from http://lifehacker.com/ an/or http://www.instructables.com/
-MrsMo is one person who knows where to find the best news. Sites that are not so mainstream like CNN or the BBC.
-Any chance there is a tool that will take a random text selection form a random post and publish it as the Random Quote of the day?
-Or an easy way for us to select text and have it published as Abstract Quote Of The Day!?
-Perhaps there is a way for us to queue sites for running feeds from or just a thumbnail of each sites main page. Max ten sites, last in last out. Then we can add places as they come to us.
I'm sure I'll think of more. ;)

Well, I'm not sure if there needs to be a theme to the site's content. Personally, I don't think it's required as long as it's all free speech.
I don't think we should simply add "news" though. Nothing new there. And besides, when have we ever seen MrsMo post regular news? It's always news that is crazy for some reason. I think that would be a great section, stupid news.
Personally, I'd love to help. Of course, I'll add a few rant posts when I feel like ranting as I have done a few times on the old forum. If you want I can write some information about computer software, for instance programming tutorials (although there are many, but then again, most C tutorials will start teaching you "void main()", which is illegal). Or maybe "cracking stories", stories about breaking into computers or something. I'm not an expert at that, but I can share a few stories without ever disclosing whether it's fiction or real life. Though I have to admit I haven't done it for years, so any stories I do have - those where I did something inventive - are no longer even inventive. One example being a php local file inclusion where I wrote PHP data to the apache access logs; I'm quite sure I wasn't the first one to do it, but back then (must've been 8 years ago or so) I couldn't find a single post on the technique.
I love taking pictures, so I can share the pictures I like most. I'm not a great photographer, though, but at least it's something.
What about an RSS feed for all new posts?
Ah Spoofed, ever the humble scholar! Pictures would be awesome! I always like seeing new things and new places.

"Regular news" is for the weak. News that inflames your sense of right and wrong, news that makes you wonder how people have become so inept, news that makes you laugh - that's the kind of news I like to share.

Following some suggestions here I made some new sections in the CMS and modified permissions so that Members and above can add content. So if you have a rant, a gripe, a pain or just want to try your hand at being an article writer - now's your chance.
If anybody wants more or different just let me know

The only (unrelated) thing I prefered on the older side was the "new posts" bar. Right here, it's hard to see what's new and 5 posts just isn't enough anyway. So then you have to go to the forum and find out what icons mean "unread". So can't you increase that list and, maybe, make it show threads rather than posts you haven't read. Because now I have to look at the thread titles, see which are different, then only click those specific ones....
Some task it is.
About the content, something I might soon write is a series I'll call "Bugging Software", about the most dreadful software. I already know what the first article would be about, though I think the software it will be about is so dreadful I can never find anything worse than that...
Edit: Could you also make it a bit easier to see the most interesting posts or something? Maybe with a rating system if possible. Because I barely noticed MrsMo posting a link. It's hidden somewhere on the front page as far as I can see; but it will only be for a while until there are too many new posts. After that I don't even know how to read it again.
Edit 2: Okay, so it's top left "weird news". Hmm... Can't you put the latest content posts in the center or something? I don't know... It just doesn't feel easy to use for me yet.

I was having trouble with the same thing. And THEN I timed out and because I had already opened the "new posts" link, when I logged back in none of the posts were considered unread anymore.
You notice that I used the past tense "was." That's because D fixed the problems and now we should see a list of the latest threads with new posts and timeout will be after 30 minutes, not 15 (15 minutes? Heck, I'm just getting into a good rant!).
